This position sits within the Science, Engineering and Health (SEH) College within the School of Engineering. This School is the largest under SHE College and comprises seven disciplines, including Aerospace Engineering and Aviation, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Electrical and Biomedical Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, and Manufacturing, Materials and Mechatronics Engineering. Bringing multiple disciplines together within one school provides tremendous opportunities for interaction and collaborative interdisciplinary research work, the sharing of resources, strategic recruitment, and infrastructure investment.

About the role

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be based within Manufacturing, Materials and Mechatronics Engineering and will make a significant contribution to the research efforts in the RMIT Centre for Additive Manufacturing (RCAM). The Research Fellow will focus on developing a series of high-performance, pearliticTi-Cu based alloys through metal additive manufacturing, aligned with a recently awarded ARC Discovery grant and other additive manufacturing related activities within the Centre. The Research Fellow’s role is primarily to plan, develop and engage in high quality research projects that on metal additive manufacturing including liaising with project partners at the University of North Texas in the USA and other partners of RCAM.

About You

To come and join our team, you’ll meet the following criteria:

Evidence of research outputs including publications, conference contributions and/or technical reports.

A track record and recognition for quality research outputs, which have a significant impact on metal additive manufacturing, alloy design, and phase transformations.

Expertise in microstructure characterization using scanning and transmission electron microscopy, including techniques such as EBSD, EDS and SAED.

Experience in numerical simulation of microstructure development and/or mechanical properties would be desirable.

Ability to clearly communicate research approaches, concepts, and outcomes verbally and in writing.

The capability to consult, interact and collaborate effectively within and external to the organization, with the ability to move across academic, government and industry constituencies.

Demonstrated high level of interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Qualifications

PhD in the discipline of materials science and engineering, physical metallurgy, or relevant areas.
